IFA Shield: East Bengal, Sporting in semifinals

KOLKATA: Mohun Bagan beat Mohammedan Sporting 1-0 in the concluding Group `A' league match of the 111th IFA Shield football here on Tuesday, but failed to make semifinals. The end of the league fixtures saw East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting and Mohun Bagan tied on three points, after winning and losing a match each. East Bengal and Sporting made it to the semifinals by virtue of better goal average, while Mohun Bagan crashed out of the tournament.

Ever Ready Association beat JCT Mills 4-3 via sudden Death in the only group B match to become the third team to move into the knock-out phase. German giant Bayern Munich's second-string team has been directly seeded in the semifinals. This completed the line-up of the last four stage. — Sports Reporter

Army Green wins

NEW DELHI: Bhandari struck in the eighth minute as Army Green beat SAIL, Kolkata, 1-0 in the qualifying event of the 118th Durand Cup football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday. In another match, Indian Air Force XI defeated Hindustan Club 2-0 following goals by L. B. Victor and L. Danny in the 75th and 80th minutes. — Special Correspondent
