368 papers filed

DHARWAD: The filing of nominations in the elections to zilla and taluk panchayat gained momentum in the district on Tuesday with 368 candidates filing their nominations on the penultimate day.

As many as 131 nominations were filed on Tuesday for the zilla panchayat elections according to a release from the district administration. Forty-two candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed their nomination papers followed by Independents (31), Janata Dal-Secular (30) and the Congress (28).

For the taluk panchayat constituencies, 237 nominations were received. The party-wise list is: Congress (68), BJP (65), JD-S (44), BSP (1) and Independents (59).
