Telugu Desam demands recall of remission

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that Governor S. K. Shinde recall the remission granted to Congress leader Gouru Venkat Reddy convicted in murder cases and take action against police officers responsible for filing a factually incorrect report to favour him.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the TDP general secretary, Kadiam Srihari alleged that the top political leadership `pressured' the Kurnool police superintendent into giving a report hiding the fact that Venkat Reddy had a faction-ridden history and a rowdy sheet. It was based on this report that the Governor had granted remission. It was no surprise that the Supreme Court has made stinging remarks and sought original records from the Kurnool police.

Mr. Srihari released copies of three documents pertaining to Venkat Reddy -- rowdy sheet, faction particulars and enquiry report sent by Kurnool SP to the Central Prison, Cherlapally -- to substantiate his charge that the Government had hidden crucial facts.
