TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND: Bidar Municipal Council president Chandrashekar Patil paying respects to Sadar Patel, in Bidar on Tuesday
Bidar: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Trust celebrated the birth anniversary of the first Union Home Minister here on Tuesday. Bidar Municipal Council president Chandrashekar Patil, former MLA Manikarao Phulekar, and trust president Shivasharanappa Wali inaugurated the celebrations. Mr. Phulekar recalled Sardar Patel's contributions. He said it was because of Patel's timely action that Hyderbad Karnataka, which was under the Nizam's rule, was liberated and included in the Indian union. Mr. Wali said the celebrations were scheduled to be in September, but was postponed due to heavy rain and flash floods in the district. He urged the State Government to install a statue of Sardar Patel in Bidar. "The proposal is pending for more than seven years now. It has to be cleared as soon as possible," he said. School and college students took out a procession before assembling at Ambedkar Circle.
