A star and a cause

"Use condoms; it will save your life," says Salman Khan.
Making a special appearance at an AIDS awareness event in the city recently, the Bollywood filmstar, known as much for his generosity as his brushes with the law, said he would be happy if his contribution to the cause saved even one life.
Asked to comment on the controversy regarding Kushboo's remarks, Salman said he did not know anything about the issue. "So many things are considered wrong in our culture. Smoking is wrong. Drinking is wrong. You can't control anybody; it's their life."
When he was told that the actress's comments given in response to a poll on AIDS awareness had been turned into a moral issue, the actor shrugged and said, "Then I'm a virgin."
Later on backstage, the actor in his usual flamboyant style declared, "I looooove Kushboo!"On a more serious note, he asked what the fuss was all about. "What about her fans? " he asked, "And why haven't those people in the film who have had premarital sex stepped forward to support her? Anyway the bigger the issue gets," he said, "the better it is for the cause of AIDS prevention."
