CHENNAI: "Ayurveda Where Science meets Consciousness" is the theme of the international Ayurveda conference to be held in Mahabalipuram between January 18 and 22. The meet aims at reinforcing the purity and potency of Ayurveda at a time when it is in danger of dilution and distortion and spreading awareness of the system of medicine in the community. It will also provide a platform for interaction between students and practitioners of Ayurveda, the beneficiaries and the healers, according to the organisers, Punarnava Ayurveda. Punarnava is jointly organising the conference and expo with the All-India Ayurveda Congress and Indeco Leisure Hotels. The purpose of the conference is to provide glimpses into authentic Ayurveda for global well-being, Kalpana Sampath of Punarnava, said. While upholding the core principles of Ayurveda, without dilution, it is possible to adapt the processes to the needs of the current generation. "There is a very deep logical basis for Indian systems of medicine," Punarnava MD, Ramkumar, said. Quoting the World Health Organisation, he said traditional systems of medicine are seen as incorporating plants, animals and or mineral-based medicines, spiritual therapies, manual techniques and exercise to treat illness and maintain wellbeing. Traditional systems could either be integrated or included within the modern treatment system, he said. Globally renowned Ayurveda exponents and advocates including Deepak Chopra, Hari Sharma, Rama Prasad and Praful Patel have consented to be the faculty at the event. The experience will be holistic, with performance of `homams,' `massage therapy units,' yoga camps and stalls to exhibit various traditional systems of treatment. The conference will be held in Sterling, Mahabalipuram, Steve Borgia, Chairman and Managing Director, Indeco, said. With Kerala projecting itself as a healing and rejuvenation centre, the international community had come to perceive the State as the hub of Ayurveda. The conference would turn the focus on Tamil Nadu's potential in the area, Mr. Borgia said.
