Subhash Chopra demands CLP on farmhouse policy

Staff Reporter

`Policy to check improper use of residential colonies, farmhouses'

NEW DELHI: With all political parties joining hands to plead the case of farmhouse owners and those who have violated building norms by converting residential areas into commercial hubs, senior Congress leader and Kalkaji MLA Subhash Chopra has also joined the bandwagon. Mr. Chopra has written to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit demanding that a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) be convened to discuss the issue.

In the letter to Ms. Dikshit, the former DPCC president has asked the Government to frame a proper policy so that improper use of residential colonies and farmhouses could be avoided. He said an urgent meeting of the CLP should be convened so that all issues could be discussed among the legislators before making a policy. Mr. Chopra pointed out that the issue of commercialisation of residential colonies and use of farmhouses for social and marriage functions assumes great significance as it is primarily due to the inability of the administration to provide proper facilities for shopping and marriage functions that these developments have occurred.

Mr. Chopra stated that acute shortage of marriage halls at affordable rates force people to seek unconventional venues like farmhouses to hold marriages and marriage receptions as the major hotels and marriage halls are either beyond their reach or are not available due to the tremendous rush. It is in this context that some measures need to be put in place for ensuring adequate space to the common man to hold such functions or ceremonies, he said.
