dated December 1, 1955: Cartoon on Eisenhower

The US President, Mr. Eisenhower was very much touched by a cartoon which appeared recently in The Hindu depicting the concern felt by the world over his health. The cartoon by Thanu which showed a woman (symbolising the Geneva spirit) peering anxiously out of the window and awaiting the latest news bulletin about the President's health was published in the issue dated October 21. The Indian Embassy in Washington forwarded a clipping of the cartoon to the White House and it interested Mr. Sherman Adams, Chief Assistant to the President, who showed it to the convalescing President. The sentiment expressed in the cartoon was much appreciated by Mr. Eisenhower.
