Mr. V.R. Ramanath Aiyar, the Congress nominee, was on November 29 elected Mayor of Madras for the year 1955-56. The out-going Mayor, Mr. M.A. Chidambaram, conducted the election. Dr. K.V. Swamy was elected Deputy Mayor.
