TOKYO: The Tokyo High Court ordered the Japanese government on Wednesday to pay $ 27.3 billion in compensation to local residents for noise from a U.S. military base, raising the amount of redress ordered previously by a lower court, the High Court and news reports said. The court, however, rejected the plaintiffs' demand for state compensation for future damage and suspension of early morning and late night flights from Yokota Air Base in Tokyo's western suburbs, court spokeswoman Miho Tanabe said. — AP
