JCB India to set up third plant in Pune

Will exclusively produce excavators

BANGALORE: JCB India, a leader in the construction equipment sector, on Wednesday said it would be putting up its third plant in Pune, exclusively to produce excavators. The plant coming up with an investment of Rs. 225 crore would begin production by the middle of next year.

Announcing this at a press conference at the EXCON 2005 venue, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of JCB, John Patterson, said the plant would have an installed capacity of 6,000 excavators. Last year, JCB India sold about 400 units of excavators and the market for it was expanding. The company in all sold over 7,000 machines, the majority being backhoe loaders.

JCB India's Managing Director, Onkar Singh Sunar said since 1979, the company's sales were expected to increase, considering the investments being made in the infrastructure sector.

The company had four product ranges for the Indian market with an extensive dealer network. At the EXCON, JCB India unveiled the JS 200 tracked excavator with a load lifting capacity in the 20 tonne class.
