JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the World Economic Forum to develop the education sector through public-private partnership and promote computerisation of schools. The MoU was signed on Tuesday as part of the Rajasthan Education Initiative during the India Economic Summit-2005 in New Delhi. The United Nations Global E-School and Communities Initiative (GECI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will also be part of the project. The new venture, besides looking after the information technology-driven plans, will also take care of the social programmes, such as midday meals scheme and assistance to disabled students in the schools. The WEF Managing Director, Peter Torreele, CII Director General, N. Srinivasan, Executive Director of the GECI's India chapter, Stephen Nolan, and the State Government's Principal Secretary, Education, C.K. Mathew, signed the memorandum in the presence of the Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje. Ms. Raje pointed out that nearly one crore students of 75,000 Government schools across the State would benefit from the project. She said nine MoUs with different institutions had already been signed to give the Rajasthan Education Initiative a proper shape. The Chief Minister said the public-private partnership would ensure universalisation of primary education.
