BANGALORE: Rangayana, the theatre repertory set up by the Government, is all set to host its flagship event, the Bahuroopi-2005 in Mysore, from December 8 to 13. Rangayana Director A.G. Chidambara Rao Jambe, who announced the six-day event at a press conference here on Wednesday, said Bahuroopi has over the years emerged as a much-anticipated national event in theatre circles across the country. The festival will feature a Janapada Utsava, with folk artists from Orissa's Gotipuva, Gujarat's Bhavai, Manipuri, Rajasthani folk art, apart from Karnataka's own Sri Krishna Parijata, Karapala Mela, and Yakshagana Puppetry performing every day in a mela-like ambience at Rangayana's various arenas. Handicrafts, books, street plays, apart from seminars and discussions on various aspects of theatre are also planned. The seminar beginning on December 10 would have the theme, "Post-modern context indigenous culture". Jnanpith awardee U.R. Ananthamurthy will inaugurate the seminar. Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh will inaugurate Bahuroopi on December 8. Theatre groups from all over the country in 14 languages will stage plays.
