Vaiko against mills' privatisation

CHENNAI: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko met Union Textiles Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela on Tuesday and requested him not to privatise two NTC-owned Mills in Coimbatore — Sharada Mills and Coimbatore Spinning and Weaving Mills. A press note said Mr. Vaiko pointed out that most of the workers were aged between 40 and 50. Their future was at stake.

He said the present problems were a result of high wages, high electricity rates and production cost. These could be brought down with discussions between the employees and management.
