South Asian zoos' meet today

CHENNAI:
The sixth annual conference of the South Asian Zoo Association for Regional Cooperation will be organised in Coimbatore from December 1 to 5.
Jointly organised by the Zoo Outreach Organisation (ZOO) and the Coimbatore Zoological Park Society, the conference was being held in India for the first time, B.A. Daniel, scientist with ZOO, said in a press release.
The conference's main objective would be to provide information and training for improving zoo management and animal welfare in zoos over the long term. Training in animal nutrition, population management, zoo education and basic zoo management, animal welfare, zoo record management and importance of taxonomy in zoo collections would be an important component of the meeting.
Zoo managers from all South Asian countries which have zoos, including Afghanistan will attend, the release said.
