Held for dowry death

NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man, who allegedly murdered his three-month pregnant wife by setting her ablaze at Patel Nagar in West Delhi on Monday, has been arrested. A hunt has been launched for his parents and brother. Deepali (20), who had sustained serious burns, was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital by her husband, Trilok Chand, and his father on Monday. From there, she was referred to JPN Hospital. In her statement to the area Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Deepali alleged that Trilok Chand poured kerosene over her and set her afire, in the presence of his parents and brother. Deepali later succumbed to her injuries.

Arrested for murder

NEW DELHI: Four persons have been arrested by the West Delhi police for allegedly killing a man with a criminal record at Rajouri Garden in West Delhi this past Sunday.

According to the police, the deceased, Ravi Prakash, registered as an alleged bad character at the Rajouri Garden police station, had been stabbed to death and the body was dumped near Balmiki Temple in Rajouri Garden in the morning. During investigations, one Vipin, a resident of the same locality, told the police that Ravi was in possession of a letter and that it could help the police in cracking the case. The police then questioned Vipin at length who then allegedly confessed to having killed Ravi after hatching a conspiracy. At his instance, the other three accused -- Vikas (younger brother of Vipin), Rinku and Rajesh -- were also arrested. The police have recovered the weapon of offence allegedly used in the crime.

Vipin had decided to kill Ravi as he had been harassing his sister, the police said. Vipin roped in his brother and friend Rinku. Another accused, Rajesh, a cable operator of the locality, also joined the conspiracy.

Man commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in his house at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi on Wednesday.

According to the police, Rajender Kumar, a resident of Budh Vihar in Sultanpuri, hanged himself with the help of a rope around 6-15 p.m. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. Preliminary investigations revealed that Rajender was unemployed and was also an alcoholic. He used to have frequent arguments with his family members over the issue.
