Ivanchuk out

NEW DELHI: P. Hari Krishna, Surya Shekhar Ganguly and K. Sasikiran will have to go through tie-break games to advance to the third round but top seed Ukraine's Vassily Ivanchuk was knocked out of the World Cup chess tournament at Khanty Mansiysk in Russia.

In Game Two of the second round, Hari made amends for his loss to Brazil's Giovanni Vescovi on Wednesday by winning in 31 moves. Ganguly drew early with Georgia's Levan Pantsulaia before Sasikiran, needing just a draw to move up, lost to Russia's Sergei Rublevsky.

The tiebreak games will be played on 17 boards on Friday and the winners will join 15 others in the round of 32.

Leading results: Second round: Game Two: Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukr, 0.5) drew with Ivan Cheparinov (Bul, 1.5); Robert Kempinsky (Pol, 0.5) drew with Etienne Bacrot (Fra, 1.5); Levon Aronian (Arm, 2) bt Darmen Savakasov (Kaz, 0); Andrei Istratescu (Rom, 0) lost to Alexander Grischuk (Rus, 2); Boris Gelfand (Isr, 1) drew with Ruben Felgaer (Arg, 1).
