Help resolve Kashmir dispute, Musharraf tells U.S.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has urged the United States to lend its support to efforts aimed at resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, "which is at the root of tension in South Asia."

Talking a seven-member U.S. Congressional delegation, led by co-chairs of the Pakistan Caucus Dan Burton (Republican) and Sheila Jackson Lee (Democrat) here on Thursday, he underscored the importance of moving towards a settlement of the Kashmir dispute in the interest of durable peace and stability in the region.

An official statement said the delegation expressed support for the peace process to resolve all outstanding issues between India and Pakistan.

It said the delegation lauded the cooperation Pakistan was extending to the international community in the fight against terrorism and supported its efforts to promote regional peace and stability.

The delegation is on a three-day visit to Pakistan.
