Package to be offered at a cost of Rs. 17,100 plus taxes Schools can choose a package from different themes such as `Science and technology' or `Cultural tour'

CHENNAI: Indian Airlines and Singapore Tourism Board have re-launched the `Singapore Overseas School Trips' promotion for school students.

The package will be offered at a cost of Rs. 17,100 plus taxes. It will cover the airfare, accommodation, food and escort guide expenses.

Addressing teachers of various schools, Madhu. C. Mathen, regional sales manager, Indian Airlines, said, "When you explain the cost involved to parents, please use the word investment instead of cost, as this is an investment for a great learning experience."

Schools can choose a package from different themes such as `Science and technology', `Cultural tour' or `Sports exchange'. They can also opt for workshops on topics such as `Team building', `Leadership skills' or camps on `Computer learning'.

Singapore Science Centre and Singapore Education have come together to organise `Science Buzz 2005', a science festival featuring several workshops on life sciences and robotics. The highlight of the festival, which is on till February 2006, is an exhibition titled `The Art of Star Wars', showcasing creative inputs that went into the making of the `Star Wars' films.

`Singapore Education Overseas School Trips Outreach' award will be instituted for students returning from their trip. The award, aimed at encouraging students to share their experiences in creative ways, will be given to students who visit Singapore before March 2006.

"Singapore is one of the most tourist-friendly countries. Safety is not a problem at all. Children can learn so much by observing the cleanliness and discipline maintained," said B. Ramdas, deputy general manager (Commercial), Indian Airlines.

Teachers from schools that have been on visits to Singapore shared their experiences. For details, contact Jyoti Kollali at 98410 02781.
