PONDICHERRY: The president and chief executive officer of HCL's BPO Services, Ranjit Narasimhan, presented on Thursday a cheque for Rs. 25 lakhs to Pondicherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy as the company's contribution to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund in the context of the recent floods in the Union Territory. The associate vice-president of the HCL Infosystems, C.S. Dwivedi, accompanied Mr. Ranjit Narasimhan at the meeting with the Chief Minister. The company had already contributed Rs. 5 crores to Prime Minister's Relief Fund and Rs. 1 crore to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The amount is the total of the contributions of the company's employees and a matching contribution from the management.
Solidarity
Mr. Ranjit Narasimhan later told newsmen that the contributions to the relief funds marked the solidarity of the company and its employees with the efforts of the Governments to enable speedy easing of the situation caused by unprecedented floods. He also said that the HCL Technologies, one of the country's leading global IT services enterprise providing software led IT solutions, would open a BPO centre in Pondicherry in 2006. Its global network of 26 offices in 15 countries indicated the company's leveraging of extensive offshore infrastructure and also global network to deliver solutions across select verticals. The HCL's BPO centres were already functioning in Noida, Chennai, Bangalore, Northern Ireland and Mauritius and each of the 12 centres located in these cities were employing 1000 staff. He said the HCL was having five plants in Pondicherry producing computers, monitors and keyboards.
