Free books for flood-hit students

CHENNAI: Students in flood-affected districts will be given free textbooks and notebooks, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced on Thursday.

All students in Classes I to XII in government and government-aided schools, as also self-financing sections in such schools, will benefit, according to an official press release. This will cost the Government Rs.1.35 crores. During her tour of flood-hit districts, Ms. Jayalalithaa had learnt that the books of several students had been washed away or damaged. As half-yearly examinations were approaching, she ordered that books be given to them free of cost.
