Three artists honoured at music festival

CHENNAI: Ranjani and Gayatri, who have excelled on the violin and in vocal music were conferred the Isaiperoli at the inaugural function of the 31st year art festival of Kartik Fine Arts in the city on Thursday.

Ramya Ramnarayan, a Bharatanatyam exponent, was honoured with the "Nadanamamani" title.

T.S. Narayanasami, Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Overseas Bank, conferred the title on the musical duo and K.V. Rangaswami, Member of the Board and Senior Vice-President, L &T ECC Division, on the Bharatanatyam artiste. The awards consisted of a ponnadai, a medallion and Rs. 15,000 in cash.

Commendable service

Speaking at the function organised in association with Indian Overseas Bank, Mr. Narayanasami said the bank had been rendering a commendable service of providing opportunities for spotting and developing latent talent in younger generation in music, dance and drama. The IOB, he noted, had been encouraging all forms of music and would continue to promote music and musicians and other artistes. Mr. Rangaswami explained that Kartik Fine Arts has carved a niche for itself in fostering culture. L & T, he said, was happy to sponsor the annual music festival organised by the Kartik Fine Arts and would continue the support in the near future. L. Sabaretnam, Chairman, A.V.S. Raja, President, were among those who spoke.

V.V. Srivatsa, art critic, and Priyadarsini Govind, Bharatanatyam artist, lauded the three awardees.
