Revenue Minister's plea to department staff

Staff Reporter

Asks them to render all assistance to other departments

  • Calls his department `Mother Department'
  • Firm on completing assigned tasks
  • Rs. 3.61 crores relief cleared for Nellore

Nellore: Describing Revenue Department as `Mother Department', Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao has asked its employees to render all possible assistance to sister departments and not be indifferent to the public.

    `Administration firm'

Addressing the district conference of revenue, registration and youth welfare officials at the Golden Jubilee Hall here on Thursday, . Mr. Rao, who admitted there were constraints faced by both the Government and employees, pointed out that the administration was, however, firm on completing the assigned tasks. In this connection, he referred to the irrigation projects saying that they would be completed in time.

With regard to land distribution, Mr. Rao claimed that Andhra Pradesh occupied a unique distinction of being in the forefront in the field and informed that out of 1.50 crore beneficiaries all over the country, the State accounted for more than 50 per cent which was a record.

However, the Minister took the Revenue officials to task for not properly restoring the legal land rights to the assigned persons.

He said a person enjoyed a special status in the society when he owned a reasonable area of land.

However, a number of times, the right of land principle was not followed, despite clear directions as per 9 of 77 Act. Mr. Rao instructed mandal revenue officers to prepare details relating to available land and the exact number of beneficiaries.

    Minister sets target

The Minister was happy with the progress made in Nellore district with regard to land distribution. Expressing satisfaction about the fact that 87,000 acres was taken back from illegal owners and restored to legal beneficiaries, Mr. Rao wanted the same dedication to be followed in the third phase too.

Primary Education Minister N. Rajyalakshmi, district Collector M. Ravichandra, Joint Collector B. Ramaiah, Special Collector, Telugu Ganga (land acquisition), P. Venkateswarlu and other senior officials were present.
