LUCKNOW: Over 100 people had been taken ill in the Uttar Pradesh Capital after diarrhoea spread its wings in the past five days. Health authorities here said over 50 people had so far been admitted to various hospitals, with the Civil Hospital accounting for the maximum number of patients. Sources claimed over 100 people were effected. The office of the Nagar Swasthya Adhikari (NSA) said Lucknow Municipal Corporation had deployed an additional 16 `sanitary staff' in Narhi area where the disease hit the most in the past week. ``Lime powder is being sprinkled in the affected areas,'' NSA official Rathore said here today. Authorities have identified Narhi and Lal Kuan as the main areas where the disease has spread. In Narhi, the Jal Sansthan officials were likely to undertake the mandatory water test to check its further spread. A section of the officials admitted that since epidemics usually spread in summers and monsoon, the authorities were caught off-guard in checking diarrhoea. Medical teams were being sent in disease-affected areas even as hospitals had been put on alert to receive more patients in coming days. - UNI
