"Season tickets for whole match are not thrust down upon everybody's throat."

CHENNAI:
A city court declined to restrain the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association from conducting the India-Sri Lanka Test match here between December 2 and 6 and from selling tickets for the event.
The II assistant city civil judge, I. Pandurangan, dismissing with costs two interlocutory applications filed by M. Suresh Babu, said the court would not interfere with the event when the TNCA had completed all arrangements.
The petitioner came to the court at the eleventh hour, just a day before the match, the judge said, adding that no irreparable loss would be caused if the match were not interfered with. Mr. Pandurangan, however, posted the main suit to December 29 for further hearing.
When the matter was taken up for hearing, P.S. Raman, senior counsel for the TNCA, argued that it was a private lis, and no "speculative injunction" should be granted. Interim orders should be granted only if more serious damage would be caused otherwise. Also, the Supreme Court had repeatedly held that eleventh hour petitions should not be entertained.
Mr. Raman said the TNCA had one of the best drainage facilities in the country, and it had modern equipment to drain rainwater. Cricket, like other games, was played subject to the weather.
The Association was selling more tickets on a daily basis this time, Mr. Raman said. "Season tickets for the whole match are not thrust down upon everybody's throat."
