Annual sale of Bible Society begins

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: As a warm up to the Christmas season, the Bible Society of India is holding its annual sale of The Bible and related books at the Memorial Hall, Park Town.

The books on display will be available at a discount of 10-70 percent till December 4.

There are 400 different formats of The Bible and different versions such as the King James Version and the New International Version. The books come from the Bible Society, an international non-profit organisation founded in Chennai in 1820.

D.S. Ebi Samuel, auxiliary secretary of the society, said: "The main aim of the society is to translate The Bible in a language people understand." The Adventure Bible for adolescents has glossy illustrations, blurbs and charts.

Greeting cards will be available at Rs. 12 each.

And for the tech-savvy, the electronic Bible may be of interest. You enter a key word and it will display the matching verses.

This, however, is one of the more expensive products priced at more than Rs. 4,000 each.

There are also animated VCDs of Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments, priced at Rs. 99.
