Make full use of free legal service, Judge urges litigants, members of public

Legal Service Authority helps by amicably resolving disputes

TAMBARAM: Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Chengalpattu, G.M. Akbar Ali, has appealed to litigants and the general public to avail of free legal service to get what is due to them.

Speaking at a "Law Day and Legal Services Day" organised by the Tambaram and Alandur Taluk Legal Services Authority and the Lions Club of Chitlapakkam recently, he said the Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority was constituted to ensure that justice reached all sections of society. The Legal Services Authority (LSA) helped litigants by amicably resolving their problems.

For instance, the LSA helped senior citizens get pension from the Government. It also helped women victims get justice in family disputes.

Mr. Akbar Ali said the Authority would take all possible steps to amicably resolve cases. "And if there is no solution to the problem, the LSA will even arrange advocates to take up the cause of the litigants free of cost."

K. Raghu Raj, advocate and president of Lions Club of Chitlapakkam, said the camp had been organised to take the message of free legal aid to the people, many of whom were unaware of the services provided by the authority.

Among those who spoke were Mohideen Pitchai, Principal Subordinate Judge, Chengalpattu, and R.D. Santosham and N. Ramesh, District Munsiffs at Alandur and Tambaram.

More than 100 petitions pertaining to various problems were received from residents, many of whom sought flood relief.
