HYDERABAD: Seventy thousand citizens have submitted form-six applications for inclusion of their names in the electoral voter list for the 13 Assembly constituencies under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad thus far. Malakpet Assembly constituency tops in receipt of forms with 17,058 followed by Khairatabad constituency with 13,663 while Musheerabad constituency has received a total of 1,833. District Election Officer and MCH Commissioner Sanjay Jaju requested the citizens to verify their names and addresses in the voter lists as the special summary revision was on till December 4 with reference to January 1, 2006 as the qualifying date.
Draft rolls
Draft electoral rolls were published on November 5, 2005 and placed at all electoral registration offices, polling station locations and delivery post offices for filing of claims and objections. Revision exercise also involves deletion of the names of dead electors, those who have shifted out and also corrections. Those who will have attained the age of 18 years as on 01-01-2006 were eligible to be enrolled as voters. About 4,000 officials were drafted for the exercise.
Areas jurisdiction
Meanwhile, Ranga Reddy district Collector L. Premchandra Reddy has said a majority of areas in the district fall under the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the Municipal Commissioner is the District Electoral Officer of some areas falling under the Ranga Reddy district. Residents in L.B. Nagar, Kukatpally, Gaddiannaram, Sherlingampally, Malkajgiri, Alwal and a part of Rajendranagar municipalities of the district have to register their names with the MCH as they come under the jurisdiction of Hyderabad District Electoral Officer. However, residents in other municipalities of the district can contact the MROs concerned for registration of their names. The special drive will continue up to December 4.
