CLP convened

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit is understood to have decided to convene a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) to discuss the issue arising out of commercial misuse of farmhouses and running of commercial establishments in residential areas in violation of the law. The Kalkaji MLA, Subhash Chopra, had on Tuesday demanded convening of the CLP meeting and urged the Chief Minister to take urgent action. Although no date has been announced formally for the CLP, but it is likely to be held early next week.

Gold medal for teacher

NEW DELHI: Savita Hanspal was on Thursday awarded the gold medal for standing first in the B. Ed. examination conducted by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University here.

A mathematics teacher at Delhi Public School-Noida and a student of the Ideal Institute of Management and Technology at Karkardooma, she was presented the award by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at the second convocation of the University.

Five held for cement adulteration

NEW DELHI: Five persons have been arrested by the Special Staff of the New Delhi police for allegedly adulterating cement of renowned companies and selling it in the open market. The police have seized five truckloads of adulterated cement and also unearthed two factories where the adulteration was allegedly being done.

Acting on a tip-off, the police had laid a trap on Ridge Road on Wednesday. The truck suspected to be carrying the consignment appeared on the scene around 3 p.m. The police seized the truck and arrested the driver Yogesh Kumar. More than 450 bags of adulterated cement were allegedly recovered from the truck.

At the instance of Yogesh Kumar, the other four accused -- Mukesh Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Shafi and Abid -- were also arrested. The police recovered four more trucks with adulterated cement. The factories located in Faridabad were also unearthed.

The police said the accused would buy the cement of renowned companies from Rajasthan and mix sand or soil in it. They would then repackage the adulterated cement and sell it in the open market.

Further investigations in the case are on.

Health mela planned

NEW DELHI: The East Delhi police have launched `Project Aabhas' with the help of a non-government organisation, The Help Foundation, to help senior citizens. Under the project, a "health mela" will be held in the DCP office complex at Vishwas Nagar in East Delhi from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on December 3. A team of doctors from Max Balaji Hospital will take part in the "mela".

Specialists will check the health status of the participants and provide medical assistance to them.

Man commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling in the house of his brother-in-law at Sultanpuri in North-West Delhi on Thursday.

According to the police, Deep Narayan of Kirari village had come to meet his brother-in-law at his Inder Enclave house in Sultanpuri where he hanged himself from the fan with the help of a muffler around 2-45 p.m. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
