Raids at MTNL offices

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday carried out raids at the offices and residences of five officials of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited and two contractors after registering cases against them. The accused had allegedly passed bogus bills worth several lakhs in lieu of `construction' at MTNL buildings.

The raids began in the morning and continued till afternoon. The CBI sleuths recovered several incriminating documents. According to the CBI, four MTNL officers of Rohini Division had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Satya Constructions to pass bills for non-existent works. The Accounts Officer (Cash) was also allegedly involved.

Two officials of Idgah Division had allegedly entered into a similar criminal conspiracy with P.R. Builders, the CBI said. A sub-divisional clerk has also been named in the case.
