Some Ministers apprehensive over impact of changed contours

Hyderabad: The Cabinet, which met here on Friday, decided to hold an all-party meeting on the issue of delimitation of mandals and panchayats.

When the issue cropped up, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy suggested to his colleagues that it would be better if an all-party meet took a decision on it as it affected every one, it was learnt. Some Ministers expressed apprehensions over the impact of the changed contours of mandals and panchayats on their political fortunes.

Dr. Reddy advised them to await the decision on the process of delimitation of Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies. He assured the Ministers that no hasty decision would be taken on this issue.

He was said to have directed the Ministers to treat the Assembly session beginning on Saturday seriously and remain in the House during the proceedings as their absence would affect the official business. They must do their homework properly.

The Chief Minister reportedly brushed aside references to the criticism of his Government by the Congress MLA from Khairatabad, P.Janardhan Reddy, on the controversy over increasing the capacity of the Pothireddypadu head regulator.

The issue of land allocation to the sports management company, M/s. IMG Bharata, by the previous TDP government at throwaway prices also found a mention at the Cabinet meeting. But, the Chief Minister, in an apparent references to summons issued by the ACB court to the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, said he preferred to allow the law to take its own course.

The Cabinet decided to rename the NTR Health University by adding the prefix `Dr.' acknowledging the doctorate (honoris causa) received by late N. T. Rama Rao. The change in the name will be effected through a legislation or executive order whichever is applicable.
