BANGALORE: Bangalore Habba, presented by Bangalore Central, kicked off with an Artists' Walkway, a film festival and street theatre on Friday.

The concept behind Artistes Walkway, a line of stalls on the north pavement of M.G. Road, is to bring all categories of artists, art galleries, and students on a common platform to enable them to sell their works. This will give Bangaloreans access to a vibrant and varied art all in one location, say the organisers.

The Artists' Walkway, a continuing feature of the annual Bangalore Habba, will be open till December 11 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Entry is free.

Film festival

Yesteryear actress B. Saroja Devi inaugurated the film festival, organised to mark the Bangalore Habba. Justifying the need for such an event, she stressed the importance of exposing the regional medium to new Bangaloreans.

The film festival is supported and coordinated by the Kannada film industry, other South Indian film chambers and leading personalities of the industry. In recognition of matinee idol Rajkumar's contribution to Kannada cinema, one section of the festival is devoted to his films. In addition, a festival of films from the Indian Panorama selection, including Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and international cinema will be screened at regular cinemas and at outdoor cinema-on-ground venues across the city till December 8.

Details on free passes can be had on www.bangalorehabba.net. Information may also be had at 9880740009.
