Bangalore: They became `Knights in Khaki' on Friday when 33 personnel of the city police, including 11 policewomen, were honoured for their dedicated service by the Ladies Circle of India. Felicitating them, Ladies Circle of India President Alka Poddar said: "Despite constant criticism, police personnel keep law and order. If every citizen follows the rules, there will be less pressure on the police but this is not so. Their hard work, long hours of neglecting their families, risking and often sacrificing their lives are rarely recognised by those for whom the police work. This is just the first step to show them our gratitude." City Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh said such appreciation would lift the morale of the police and also be an example to other sections of society to come forward and treat the police as their friends. The police have been asked to closely interact with the people of the neighbourhoods they patrol, he added. The 33 police personnel honoured included those from East, West, South and Central Zones all divisions of the city police.
