KOCHI: The Southern Naval Command along with the Navy Wives' Welfare Association observed World Disabled Day on Saturday by organising an exclusive programme for 130 special children on board INS Tir and Krishna. Children from Sankalp, Asha Deepam, Snehalayam, Adarsh, Asha Kendram and Nirmalagiri Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, Moovattupuzha, participated in the programme. The children were received by naval personnel and shown around the Naval Base. This included a visit to the air station where they got an opportunity to take a close look at a naval aircraft on static display. The children were then welcomed on board the naval ships by officers and sailors. The ships' crew entertained the children with songs and dance and A. Suresh had a surprise for the children in his magic show. A song and dance competition for the special children was also held as part of the programme. Gita Rani Bangara, chief guest at the programme and Navy Wives' Welfare Association (Southern region) president, gave away the prizes. The children were also presented a memento each at the end of the programme.
