Development works to be taken up

Staff Reporter

ERODE: The Erode Municipal Council on Friday passed the Commissioner for Municipal Administration's (CMA) 100-point programme.

The Chairman, M. Subramanian, who presided over the meeting, said that 38 works, under the programme, would be completed by March 31, 2006. A total of 62 works would be completed by month-end.

He said road and traffic management, providing green cover for parks, development of old bus stands, modernisation of municipal office and development of graveyards would be taken up under the programme.

A senior Congress Councillor, R. Sundarasamy, said that the programme would cost about Rs. 1.20 crores to the municipality and already several schemes had been formulated. Since the municipality was likely to face fund crunch, he suggested that the municipal administration should plead with the Government to grant funds for the implementation of the programme.

Sufficient funds

Intervening in the debate, the Municipal Commissioner, R. Selvaraj, said that the municipality had sufficient funds to execute all the works, including the implementation of 100-point programme.

Mr. Subramanian said that they were planning privatisation of the Municipal VOC Park and soon a tender would be floated for its maintenance. The council passed a resolution seeking to sterilise stray dogs in the municipal area.
