Utilise schemes, Collector tells physically challenged

ERODE: The State Government has announced various concessions to the physically challenged persons and they should utilise it without any hesitation, the Collector, D. Karthikeyan, said on Saturday while participating in the function organised by the Rehabilitation Department in connection with the World Disabled Day.

Pension

The Collector said that in Erode district, 1,289 physically challenged persons were selected for the pension scheme.

The Collector said that recently an affluent person had encroached on a poramboke land in Thindal area.

Corrective surgery

However, he was evicted and the land granted to 20 physically challenged persons. Group houses were built for them under the Indira Aawaz Yojana. The Collector said that for disability, corrective surgery was conducted in the Government Headquarters Hospital and the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

Help sought

The Collector thanked private agencies involved in helping the physically challenged and wanted more such private institutions to come forward to provide employment to such persons.

The Collector distributed prizes to the physically challenged children who participated in the sports meet. Assistance under various welfare schemes was also granted to physically challenged persons at the function.

The Chairman of the SIDCO, `Sindhu' Ravichandran, Perundurai MLA, K.S. Palanisamy, the Joint Director of Health Services, R. Shanmugam, the president of the Jeevan Jothi Trust, S. Kamra, the District Employment Officer, Ravindran, and others spoke at the function.
