ERODE: The recently established Cauvery Hi-tech Weaving Park at Komarapalayam, Namakkal district, will start production by March 2006 and the preliminary works were being undertaken on a war-footing. It was decided to start four hi-tech weaving parks in Palladam, Komarapalayam, Erode and Theni. The park at Komarapalayam has been established on a 42-acre site on the National Highways at Valayakkaranure. M.S. Mathivanan, a textile industrialist, has been appointed Chairman of the park. According to Mathivanan, 915 shuttleless looms would be installed in the park and 150 more later, for which all the facilities had been made. Initially 85 loom-sheds would be established and in addition, four sizing units and two Master Weaver sheds would be started. He said that in the Master Weaver sheds, the products for direct export to foreign countries would be kept. Mr. Mathivanan said that the investment for the park, including machineries and land, would be around Rs. 145 crores and production would be started from March 2006, when everyday 1.45 lakh metres of cloth would be produced.
Value-added items
Since no value-added products would be produced in the park immediately, some industries would be started where the textile products would be converted into value-added items. Regarding the financial assistance by the Union and State Governments, he said that under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme, Rs. 20 crores would be given to the park and for the building and machineries (looms), industrialists will get another Rs. 20 crores, which could be used for infrastructure development. The State Government had also granted around Rs. 6 crores for infrastructure development. The banks had volunteered to grant liberal funds, he added. Mr. Mathivanan said that the park would be a model and soon the export of textiles to other countries will increase. The Union Textile Commissioner, J.N. Singh, will visit the park Sunday and hold discussion with textile manufacturers.
