Vijayawada

VIJAYAWADA : The presence of the young and bubbling crowd made the place lively. The sprightly students filled the surroundings with vibrancy. And, there was no dearth of talent. The festival provided a platform for youngsters to challenge themselves and to rediscover their latent talent at Rhapsody, a two-day literary and cultural festival that took off at S.R.R & C.V.R Government Degree College in the city on Friday. Aimed at bringing out the spring of youthful creativity, Rhapsody made graduate and undergraduate students from various colleges from the city as well as Machilipatnam, Guntur and Nuzvid to come together.
Mixture of tradition
It was a mixture of tradition and the modern thinking that marked various events which included classical singing, painting, creative writing, `brindaganam' (group singing). Nimble fingers of artistes deftly danced to their skill in drawing the theme, Mother. Drawing sheets were filled with a splash of colours. The more academically-oriented lot tried demonstrating their power of imagination in the contest of creative writing. `Brindaganam' brought forth the ability of groups of boys and girls to sing in perfect synchronisation with one another. This event was mainly dominated by the rendition of patriotic and folksongs. `Dumb Charades', which was all about communicating a given word to your partners, made the crowd glued to the programme. Hilarious expressions and remarks in derision and praise from the crowd kept the enthusiasm of participants revved up. The teams from Maris Stella College, Government Polytechnic, P.B. Siddhartha College and Sri Kakatiya Degree College took part in the event. The inter-collegiate festival was inaugurated by noted short story writer Peddibhotla Subbaramaiah and was presided over by principal of SRR& CVR College R.B.Dikshitulu.
