Centre approves ring road proposal for Hubli

Project connecting two national highways to cost of Rs. 7 crores

  • Laying of pipelines from Amminbhavi to Hubli to be completed by December 2006

    HUBLI: The Union Government has approved the construction a ring road at a cost of Rs. 7 crores, which will connect two national highways at Gabbur near Hubli.

    Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Minister for Municipal Administration S.R. Morey said that the work on the project will begin shortly.

    Mr. Morey said that the work of laying pipelines from Amminbhavi to Hubli, which is in progress, is likely to be completed by December 2006. When completed, the project would not only save annual power worth Rs. 26 lakhs, but will also help in saving four million gallons of water a day, he said.

    The cost of the project for improving the drinking water supply system in Hubli-Dharwad has escalated to Rs. 192 crores from Rs. 176 crores. The State Government has given technical approval for the project, he said. The Minister expressed confidence that the project will get the final approval in the next Cabinet Committee meeting.

    The project of supplying drinking water 24 hours a day on an experimental basis is being implemented with the assistance of a French company.
