State Library Council awards announced

Thiruvananthapuram: Kuniyil Krishnan from New Mahe panchayat has been selected for the P.N. Panicker award.

The Kuthiravattom Deshabhoshini Public Library in Kozhikode district has been selected for the EMS Award.

The awards have been instituted by the Kerala State Library Council for 2004.

Village library

Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, president of the council G. Balamohan Thampi and secretary K. Balakrishnan Nambiar said the Nellimoodu Deshabhivardhini Library and reading room in Thiruvananthapuram district have been selected for the DC Award for the best village library and Puloor AKG Memorial Library in Kasargod district for the Samadhanom Parameswaran Award.

The N.E. Balaram Award has been bagged by Punnappra South Vigyanapradhayini library in Alappuzha district, Velam Pothujana library in Kannur district bagged the P. Ravindran Award and the Krishnapuram Friends Public Library the Imprint Award.

Jury

A jury comprising Dr. Thampi, Nambiar, Gopalakrishnan Chuloor, P.V.K. Panyal, K.S. Gopakumar, Umayanaloor Kunjhukrishna Pillai, John Fernandes, K.A. Vishwambaran, Abdul Khader Paravanna and V.K. Balan selected the winners.

The P.N. Panicker award comprises a purse of Rs.10,000, a statuette and citation; the EMS Award Rs.25,000, a citation and statuette.

The DC Award comprises books valued at Rs.44,444 and a citation; Samadhanom Parameswaran Award books valued at Rs.10,000 and a citation; and the N.E. Balaram Award comprises books valued at Rs.15,000 and a citation.

The P. Ravindran Award comprises books valued at Rs.15,000 and a citation while the Imprint Award comprises books valued at Rs.5,000 and a citation.

Dr. Thampi said the `janajagratha rally' being taken out by the council from Kasaragod on December 7 will conclude in the capital on December 20.
