KOZHIKODE: D. Sree Devi, former judge of the Kerala High Court, launched the Sthree Shakthi campaign against erosion of cultural values, being organised by the women's wing of the Jamaat-I- Islami Kerala at the Muthalakulam Maidan here on Saturday. Addressing the gathering of women, Ms. Sree Devi said human rights violations for the girl child started from the womb. Female foeticide had become a threat to the very existence of the female child. Women had become a consumer product and sex racket cases involved VIPs, she said. She wanted women to stand up to their rights and oppose the distressing trends being experienced by them in society. Awareness campaigns and free legal assistance ought to be ensured for women, she said. President, Jamaat women's wing, K.K. Fathima Suhara, secretary Aamina Ummu Aiman, among others spoke at the campaign launch.
