CHENNAI: The Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Ajit Prakash Shah, honoured Lt.Cdr. Hazari with a "ponnadai" at the Navy day celebrations held here at the Naval Officers Mess here on Saturday. Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali, the Naval Officer in-charge of Tamil Nadu, Commodore Thayi Hari, AVSM, NM, and retired naval officers were present. December 4 is being celebrated to commemorate the glorious victory of the Indian Navy in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. Commodore Hari highlighted the Navy's role in protecting the seaward approaches and safeguarding the country's maritime interests. He thanked the Tamil Nadu Government and the Chennai Port Trust for their help to the Navy in fulfilling its duties. "I would like to specially thank the Collectors and district officials of Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, and Ramanathapuram in whose jurisdiction the Navy operated six coastal Naval Detachments. Admiral Ramsagar, president, Chennai Chapter of the Navy Foundation, introduced the octogenarian, Lt.Cdr.Hazari, who had worked in various capacities.
