BANGALORE: A meeting of senior police officers from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu here on Saturday decided to set up common checkposts on the borders of the two States to check crimes, particularly vehicle theft. Policemen from Bangalore city and Bangalore Rural district, and Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts of Tamil Nadu will man the checkposts, State police sources told The Hindu. The meeting decided to set up common checkposts as hundreds of vehicles stolen from Bangalore are taken to Tamil Nadu and sold there, the sources said.
`One unit'
Policemen from the two States decided to work as "one unit" in preventing and detecting crimes as several criminals from Tamil Nadu are operating in Karnataka and vice versa. It was also decided to conduct joint raids whenever necessary, the sources said. They also exchanged information on criminals wanted by the two States. "Several persons against whom there are warrants in Tamil Nadu are staying here and those against whom there are warrants here are taking shelter in that State. We discussed steps to execute pending warrants," the sources said.
Meetings
It was decided to have meetings of officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police of the two States every month and a meeting of senior officers once in three months to coordinate crime prevention and detection, the sources said. Bangalore Police Commissioner Ajai Kumar Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) M.C. Narayana Gowda, Inspector-General of Police (Central Range) B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji, Deputy Commissioners of Police of all zones in Bangalore, Inspector-General of Police (Coimbatore) Subramanian, Superintendents of Police of Bangalore Rural, Kolar, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts participated in the meeting.
