CHITTORGARH: Kochi Refineries Limited (KRL) moved closer to the title, beating Indian Overseas Bank (IOB, Chennai) 25-21, 25-23, 17-25, 25-10 in the 10th National volleyball super league championship at the Pratap Stadium here on Saturday. Tom Joseph returned to form, after his poor show in the first two matches, helped KRL maintain clean slate. The first two sets produced high quality action. Tom Joseph's smashes were clean and blocks dropped right under the net. For IOB, M.S. Rajesh spiked spectacularly, but Tom Joseph and skipper R. Rajeev combined well to see the team through.
HSIDC loses again
Defending champion Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) suffered another setback, losing to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Dehra Dun. ONGC won 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13. On Friday night, HSIDC had scored its first win, beating Cochin Port Turst (CPT) in straight sets 25-23, 25-17, 25-17. In the women's section, seasoned campaigner Hema Ursal and junior international Priyanka Bora helped Central Railway (Solapur) to a 25-18, 25-19, 27-25 win against Western Railway, Mumbai. Central Railway finished its engagements with two wins and one loss while the Mumbai team lost all its league matches to finish at the bottom. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has two wins from as many matches and takes on Southern Railway in the final league match on Sunday The results: Men: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Dehra Dun, bt Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) 23-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 15-13.
