Slovakia draws level

PRAGUE : Dominik Hrbaty helped Slovakia to rally for a 1-1 tie against Crotia in the Davis Cup final, beating Mario Ancic 7-6, 6-3, 6-7 and 6-4 in Bratislava on Friday.

In front of the 4,000-capacity home audience at Sibamac Arena, Hrbaty stormed into a two-set lead against Ancic with some stunning tennis.

The world No. 19 took the first set tiebreak, and an Ancic double-fault gifted him the second set.

Then, Ancic held his nerve to force the third set into a tiebreak and took advantage of two rash errors from Hrbaty to clawhis way back into the match.

Hrbaty regained control of the match at 2-2 in the fourth set, breaking the Ancic serve with a forehand winner, and closed out the match in three hours 13 minutes.

In the Slovakian capital, both nations will try to clinch a first Davis Cup title when Ljubicic and Ancic will team up for Saturday's doubles, probably against Hrbaty and Michal Mertinak. — Xinhua
