KURNOOL: Varapu Padma, a descendent of the `Palegar' family landed at Kapatralla in Devanakonda mandal of Kurnool district on Saturday, leading to a tense situation in the area. Ms Padma, supported by a section of Congress leaders, was seeking police protection to go to her ancestral property in the village. Her family had deserted the village 30 years ago after a long-drawn battle with the TDP leader P. Venkatappa Naidu and his supporters. On Saturday, the streets of the village wore a deserted look as residents feared a revival of gang wars. As the ancestral house of Ms Padma was destroyed, she and her supporters took shelter in a village `chavadi'.
No visitors
Very few people dared come out of their homes and call on Ms Padma who was in exile for more than a decade. A huge posse of armed policemen was posted to the village to maintain law and order. Superintendent of Police B. Malla Reddy said that protection would be given to members of both groups.
