TIRUPATI: Speakers at a programme organised at the Youth Hostel here on Saturday to observe `World Disabled Day' appealed to the Government and voluntary organisations to provide training to the differently-abled in order to get them into the social mainstream. The days of isolation should come to an end," they said. At the programme organised jointly by NGOs Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS), People's Action for Social Service (PASS) and Navajeevan Blind Relief Centre, SV University Rector K. Sivasankar Reddy stressed on the need to erase the imaginary line that kept the physically and mentally challenged away from society. He said such persons would have to be trained in the art form, in which they have an aptitude and inclination. Konda Haribabu, a social activist, appealed to the parents of special children to cooperate with the NGOs and teachers to tap the talent in their wards.
Plea to people
An ophthalmologist Surendra Shetty appealed to the public to avoid consanguineous marriages that could lead to birth of impaired children. RASS general secretary G. Muniratnam, Navajeevan secretary K. Srinivasan and others spoke. Essay writing and elocution competitions were conducted for the physically challenged and games for the mentally challenged.
