Congress to revamp party panels

KPCC executive says the booth and block committees failed to function effectively

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has decided to revamp ineffective party committees and change local level leadership as part of its attempt to strength the party at the grass root level. If this decision were to be implemented, some of the DCC presidents and lower level functionaries would have to go.

The decision to this effect was taken at the KPCC executive meeting held here on Saturday. The meeting, while evaluating the United Democratic Front's defeat in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha by-election, came to the conclusion that the ineffectiveness of the `consensus' committees that was formed during the organisational election had also contributed to the drubbing.

The KPCC had all long been pointing an accusing finger at the CPI(M)-RSS voter transfer deal, but now has introduced another element in its assessment of the electoral setback.
