`A healthcare benchmark'

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: "The accreditation system in any country is the need of the hour. It will benchmark all healthcare providers to a particular level of delivery of health care. The new accreditation system in India is going to create a sense of competition among hospitals, recipients of care to receive comparable healthcare, payers of healthcare to have a particular value for their money spent, and above all the masses to avail of healthcare at an optimal price," said National Board of Accreditation of Hospitals and Healthcare (NABH) chairman P.K. Dave here over the weekend.

Stating that Rockland Hospital had already started the process of standardising, he noted, "The Union Health Ministry has mandated the Quality Council of India (QCI) to frame the draft for formation of National Accreditation Board of Hospitals and Healthcare Providers. QCI will act as a facilitator and monitoring agency in the framing and implementation of the draft and functioning of the accreditation system in the country."

"The new accreditation system will have a good impact as it would reduce costs," he said.
