Centre concerned, holds meeting

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Concerned over the poor power situation in the Capital, the Union Power Ministry held a review meeting on Friday evening and noted with concern the failure of the Delhi Government to make sufficient bilateral arrangements for purchase of power to meet the winter demand. Delhi had arranged only 200 MW of power this year instead of the requirement of 500 MW.

An official release said the review was held by the Secretary (Power), R.V. Shahi, along with the Delhi Chief Secretary, S. Regunathan, and Special Secretary (Power), Arun Goyal, and other senior officials. It was noted that Delhi had to make arrangements for adequate power through bilateral deals to meet its needs during winter.

The release said the demand was expected to be in the range of 2,900 to 3,000 MW in the first fortnight and 3,100 to 3,300 MW in the second fortnight.

It was decided that an additional 100 MW be allocated to Delhi from the un-allocated pool of the Central sector. It was also decided that Delhi could requisition up to 250 MW additionally from NTPC's gas-based stations.
